Facts and only the facts!

Over the past 100-plus years, due to the lack of standard rules of individual skill, as in many sports, hockey remains a mobile collective game, not a sport.

For all time this was not the case in the world of hockey that former professional hockey stars opened their own year-round school for kid’s hockey themselves and taught them on the ice to their experience.

I’m the first non-hockey player to open my own school for beginner’s hockey in America in 1973. But I am a former gymnast and figure skater at the national level in the Soviet Union – a professional teacher and a professor in the field of sports. Moreover, before immigrating to North America, for 25 years I worked as trainer of young figure skaters and published two methodological books for trainers and more than 40 articles on technique and its evaluation.

The use of technical means on the ice for an objective assessment of the quality craftsmanship of figure skating I started back in the 60s of last century, for the first time in world sport. Founder of the science “Qualimetria”, Professor G.G Azgaldov Ph.D, a member of the Russian Academy of Sciences in his book put me like first qvalimetrolog in physical culture and sports.

I am grateful to free enterprise system in the West that let me “create my work as I preferred while ignoring any opinion.” I started with a search for universal standard scientific research system of individual hockey mastery like Henry Ford began with a search for conveyor systems in auto manufacturing.

I developed it over a long period of time and applied it in many hockey countries: America, Canada, Sweden, Czech Republic, Poland and Latvia,Romania. In return, I received a huge creative and professional satisfaction from the educational process. Many of my former students and others have attempted to copy my methods in search of ways to make money.

I want to recommend the following existing references for: general purpose in children’s hockey – “adult amateur hockey and expansion of the army of hockey fans.” For children who dream to get into university or professional hockey – “the rescue of drowning, the handiwork of drowning.”

Poor technique – “lame” tactics

More than 100 years of hockey and “not one star player in the world” has not offered its own system of personal mastery development. Agree or not, as I am “not a hockey player,” the first published trilogy Hockey Agility 1993, 1997, 1998, Canada, – seeing that the majority of players do not know how to skate quickly / correctly and accurately to perform with a stick and puck.

Reason one: ice hockey is not a sport, but “a struggle between two teams for a game result” and it’s the truth. Poor technique generates a “lame tactics” approach and this is also true. How many game tactical schemes are published in the press, yet players technical skills are “forgotten”, especially in children’s hockey?

Children for the children

Overreliance on tactics and strength training cannot replace technical individual excellence. Moreover, the muscular sensations of speed acceleration, pace and rhythm, agility and precision movements – “tactic” is not replaced. Technique – a “bolt” and tactics – a “nut.” During the children’s hockey is necessary to have time to develop the technical, athletic and cognitive individual skill. After 12 years – it is practically impossible to make.

Individual technical, athletic and cognitive skills cannot be developed “on the orders of” children’s teams coaches or former players of different game specialization. Amateur or unprofessional personal learning skills generate “lame skills” because of the lack of “standards of feedback” to evaluate and compare the quality of motor movements. Individual standards of sportsmanship in children’s sports are video exercises by best young athletes of the standard system of education – “children for the children”.

Evolution of the skills mastery of the player or casual game results

In individual sports athletes develop personal skills on the basis of generally accepted “certified knowledge”, and in team games result – “divination between the case and skill”. Who can prove that the goal scored – defenses fault, goalkeeper or opponent skill? How can this be proven – who is in the game is primary and the secondary one: players, coaches or fans viewers?

Over 70 years in gymnastics, figure skating and hockey I like to say – that the overwhelming “majority of sports stars are the result of their parallel self-outside coaching training”. Any maestro does not teach his musicians how to play the notes.

The university or professional hockey agents start with the search and selection of youth, “the best from around the world”. In children’s hockey only for “the first line for the local team” are potentially destined for golden dreams. Challenge this fact it is impossible, as the other – the majority of children involved are just playing and do not dream, and for a minority open “golden opportunity for their dreams”.
