Getting comfortable on the edges of the skate blade are at the heart of philosophy as he focuses on using the entire blade to become stable.
But to accomplish that, players go through a series of exercises that make them mostly vulnerable – bouncing on their skates from a seated position, 360 degree jumps at the red and blue lines and holding the stick horizontally in front of them while skating backward.
It’s about the muscles you’re developing in order for you to have a better stride or have better balance.”
Stick and pucks/balls are absent from these early lessons; although the objective is to become quick with the puck/ball, it’s important to have a steady base before adding another layer of difficulty.
“Learning to skate correctly, I would say it’s like learning to walk for any human,”,“So once a young kid starts to walk, she’s not necessarily confident. Then she starts to walk. Then she starts to run. Then she starts to jump.” ,Managing body weight is another critical step in this evolution.
Players have been taught to turn by planting all of their body weight on the leg they are crossing over.We teaches you to still cut across, but the weight now is 50-50 on both legs.
We can cross over to the right, and we can still maintain the ability to go in any other direction because his body weight is not just on one foot. So it makes you become that much tougher to defend.
